Hurley Ridge: Said About Us

"HURLEYRIGINALS is hauntingly authentic & original mountain bluegrass music from the actual hills of Kentucky and should be experienced."

Gracie Muldoon

"Out of Lexington, Kentucky comes some new 'grass for the cuttin', all original material -"HURLYRIGINALS" so named for the band Hurley Ridge. Glen, Amy and Kent Hurley, brothers and sister and Paul Eldridge make up the award winning band (2005 Frankfort Arts Showcase Award) and its great to hear some new tunes winding down the bluegrass dirt road, where all we need is more 'grass! All sixteen songs are originals which is a testament to the creative songwriting talent found in this band here! This IS YOUR GRANDPA's MUSIC! It's heartfelt and real and stays that way throughout the project. You'll swear you're in a holler somewhere listening to it ring down the mountainsides. Songs taken from personal life experiences always are "stickers".

My picks on the CD are No Moon in Kentucky Tonight ( with the non-Hurly Eldridge on vocals ) Bluegrass Obsession with Amy's authentic "down home mama" sound, and both are making me smile, while listening. Their vocals are enthusiastic and like real mountain music, unpolished. Gosh . its great to hear that after so much slickness in the industry. Not that I dont like slick, I do, but I like real people and real back home music, too. Bluegrass music is like a homemade quilt- lots of warmth here. Fire In My Soul (added a bit of harmonica in there) and You Left the Leavin' To Me are also good tunes. Steady pickin', nothing real fancy, complements the authentic mountain voices and are the way to go for a classic Bluegrass sound. They definitely have their own sound! To hear it, visit www.HurleyRidge.com. Can you handle it? I think you can! I mean that's why we're here, right? There's noooo.. moon.. in .. Kentucky.. tonight... (hmmm) Dont ya hate it when a song gets stuck in yer head? "

"Heartfelt songwriting that rings true with authenticity from the light-hearted and amusing, "Hook, Line and Sinker" to the heartbreaking "I Cry" and everything in between. You'll find it here.

"For the last three years I have watched Hurley Ridge grow into the band that they are now. The family harmonies are hard to beat and you will hear their cd on my radio show. I am proud to call these people my friends, and their music gets better each day. I wish them the best in this and future endeavors."

Hurley Ridge performs original and traditional Bluegrass Music blending a variety of musical styles. This family group of two brothers, Glenn and Kent Hurley, and a sister, Amy, started out in rural Jackson County. Their mother and father took them to family reunions where they would listen to old time music. They now perform all around the state to much success, indluding appearances at the Old Joe Clark Bluegrass Festival in Renfro Valley.

Their musical styles have been influenced by '70's and '80's rock, African American music, southern gospel, in addition to country and Bluegrass music. Amy plays bass, Glenn plays mandolin and guitar, and Kent plays banjo and guitar. They will perform two original compositions: "Patches of Light" and "Hook, Line and Sinker" and "I Wanna Be Ready" (traditional a capella).

HURLEY RIDGE—LOST TRACK OF TIME [September 2005 Issue]
No Label, No Number

Hurley Ridge is a brother and sister trio consisting of Amy Hurley (bass and vocals), Glen Hurley (mandolin, guitar, and vocals), and Kent Hurley (banjo, vocals, and guitar). "Lost Track Of Time" is a 14-song assortment comprised mostly of original material composed by Glen and Kent. Each member of the group steps forward to share the lead vocals which imparts a significant degree of variety to the proceedings. While there are the expected obligatory pieces like "Little Cabin Home On The Hill" and "Will The Circle Be Unbroken," the more interested pieces are original numbers like "Hook, Line And Sinker," "I Cry," and "A Kiss Before You Leave." While the vocals do exhibit a harsh quality, "Lost Track Of Time" contains a certain charm that should appeal to anyone familiar with the music of Hurley Ridge.
